Horehound grows wild throughout Europe and Britain, it is generally considered a weed among New Zealand's farming community.
Horehound has a very long history as a cough remedy and has been an official medicine in the pharmacopoeias of a number of countries. It is used particularly for bronchitis and asthma.
Because of its bitter components it the German Commission E approves it for the treatment of indigestion, dyspepsia and anorexia
